Leroy“Troj” was never one to waste words. His reply was brief and to the point. After graduation from CTC in 1965 he was called to Elm Grove Lutheran School where he is teaching grade 6 for the third year. In addition he coaches boys football and softball, and directs the children’s school choir.

In the future he plans to further his education during the summer months.

Leroy, Troj, Lee, and Mr. T.

I continued on at CTC, graduated, married Betty (Bockelmann), and moved into the Lutheran teaching ministry.

9 years - Elm Grove, WI:  homeroom 6th grade, departmentalized 6-8th grade, Seward student teaching program, directed 6-8th Children's choir, and coached sports.  Daughter Jennifer arrived from Seoul, Korea in '72.  It was memorable working with children equipped for the outside elements before the electronic boon, and watching a student receive a large print Bible.

6 years - Topeka, KS: an association of 6 congregations; homeroom 8th grade, departmentalized 6-8th, Seward student teaching program, directed 6-8th Children's chois, adult congregation choir, mass adult choir made up of the six congregations, coaching, and interim principal during a building program.  Son Matthew was born in '75.  It was great working with a top drawer staff and boat children.

7 years - Pomona, CA:  principal, homeroom 7-8th grades, adult choir, serving on the Bd. of Directors for Lutheran HS, coaching, and sharing the faith with many unchurched children.

20 years - Hobart, IN:  homeroom 5-6th, later 7-8th, Athletic Director, departmentalized teaching, interim principal, and lots of coaching.  Granddaughter Rhylee was born '96. Memories include coaching a shut out soccer team, visiting with students, now fellow Lutheran teachers at conferences, and dealing with the sudden death of a fellow staff member.

June '07:  the soul searching decision to retire after 42 years and Betty's 27, clear some Michigan land and have a home built in the woods.  This final move has once again been truly blessed by the Lord.

My years in the teaching ministry included many joys, challenges, opportunities and blessings. Watching students growing in faith wisdom, knowledge, and the grace of our Lord were the best.  The blessings of working with students in academics, athletics, and choir provides many memories.  Teaching various grade levels, serving in administration, and working with dedicated teachers were part of all these blessings.

God's richest blessings to each of you.
